Mark every page as text, not a picture.
Type the word, choose a colour and how faint it should be. The mark is drawn as real text at the centre of each page, so it stays sharp at any zoom and adds almost nothing to the file size.
The same mark is drawn on every page, centred. Nothing is flattened and your original is left as it was.
- The mark is drawn in Helvetica Bold, so it covers Latin characters — other scripts are replaced with “?” rather than dropped silently
- It is drawn over the content, so a dark, solid mark will sit on top of body text
- The page is not re-rendered: the text underneath stays selectable and searchable
